I know many who try to stay here are not informed about their rights. Those who come from places like Togo do not know they have rights. WE need to make sure they know their rights, and responsibilities and do what we can to help them through the immigration process. How can we justify looking people up in prison who have not broken our laws. Aren't we innocent until proven guilty? Should those who come seeking a safe haven be thrown in jail, and then sent back to a repressive regime. Amnesty International has countless files of the abuses in Togo. Many who came here and are sent back WILL be detained, tortured and even killed when we send them back. These people need champions to help them to stay here where it is safe. Anybody care enough to stand in the gap for these human beings?
